By 2005, there will be no fewer than 500,000 people dying every
year as a result of AIDS, most of them in the prime of their
lives. Left behind will be 2 million children, orphaned without
the security and love of their parents.
In a country where the majority of these children will have
little or no social security, they will be left to survive on
their own. Condemned to a life of poverty, they will be forced
onto the streets to survive, denied the dignity of education and
health and run the risk of becoming HIV positive as well.
In the midst of such misery and hardship, the AIDS Foundation of
South Africa serves as a beacon of hope. Our concern for these
children is translated into concrete action through our support
of community-based action.
