For a PC to be Year 2000 Ready, all of its three internal clocks need to keep accurate
 track of the date at all times, particularly during the transition from 12/31/1999 to 
1/1/2000. Most PC-type computers today fall short of that goal in some way. Some can
only make the change, or " roll-over the date" , if they are turned off. Some can 
roll-over, but can't remember a Year 2000 date when they reboot. And almost all PCs 
roll-over in fits and starts, with some of the clocks changing immediately, some lagging
a short time, and in many PCs, one of the clocks never makes it into 2000 at all. The 
damage that can be caused by one or more of these errors occurring can range from 
almost nothing to catastrophic loss. What is clear is that no individual or organization 
can be prepared for the Year 2000 without addressing them.
