This opinion is quite right. However....
o some kanji terminal can not recognize ESC-$-B / ESC-(-J.
(ex. NK100 by JCC)
o problem of control character in Kanji mode, such as SPACE,
TAB, NEWLINE ....
Both are the problem concerning ternimal capability / random-access
reading.
So how about a solution :
o In the network, Kanji articles should be represented by
correct JIS sequence. Any control character can be included in
the KANJI mode.
o In the /usr/spool/news, articles may be one of Shift-JIS,
old JIS, DEC code, EUC code. The rule 'no control character
can be included in the KANJI mode' may be apply to the
spool-ed artices. Gateway machine may spool the articles
as it receives.
Implementation of the solution would be proposed by Prof. Hasebe
in the last JUS symposium :
o sending and distributing articles : modify /usr/lib/news/sys
or batcher to pass a filter.
o receiving articles, rnews will be replaced by a simple shell
script : exec filter | rnews.honmono
Then does anyone post good filters?
internal network
New JIS and (1) New JIS and (1), (2) (*)
Old JIS and (1) ''
Shift JIS ''
DEC code ''
EUC code ''
where (1) : control character can not be included in KANJI mode.
(2) : '' can be ''
(*) : input from network, any JIS should be accept.
output to network, one of (1), (2) can be selected by
an option.
